Bosch LSU 4 (5 Wire Pump Cell) Digital Design

This document has been updated and can be found here at WBo2.com. Please see WBo2.com for further information.

We are working on a fully digital wideband interface for use with the newer and much more readily available Bosch LSU4 5 wire sensor (note that a number of different LSU 4 sensor may be supported, not just the one illustrated).

The LSU4 sensor is a pump cell sensor like the NTK L1H1. We'll be offering a PCB & full part kit as well as pre-built and tested units that will work with this sensor.

We hope to have a number of new features including :

Exposed tip of an LSU 4 sensor

We can give you some preliminary technical details about the new design.:

  • Atmel ATMega8 RISC CPU at 16 Mhz (fast, powerful)
  • Switch mode control of heater sensor (low power and cool operation of unit)
  • Uses bi-directional RS232 to allow software to be field upgraded (reflashed).
  • On-board thermocouple amplifier for multiple EGT (or other) temperature probes.

The image shown at left is a cut-away of an actual LSU4 sensor showing the pump cell. The ceramic "rectangle" is just over 4 mm across (ie. it's small).

Alternate LSU Part # to 0 258 006 066

A number of vehicle manufacturers currently use a Bosch LSU 4 wideband sensor on their production vehicles. Feel free to contact us and add to the following list. Were there are multiple part number, like 065/066 they refer to the same sensor with longer or shorter leads.

Note that not all these LSU sensors have the same connector.
